Characters: Rusty, Kaelan, Ishum, and Raoul
We set out from Push Your Luck, grabbing potions of Bless (which we would end up forgetting to use).
Leaving the temple, we set out to head north toward the cave and Eagle Precipice, but, unfamiliar with then mountainous terrain, Rusty led us down into the forest instead. Here in the forest, we found traces of giant spider activity, as well as proof of Kelpies.
After mumbling something about tradition, Rusty set us back off on the right track, and we got to the cave with a fairly uneventful journey and a nap in the mountains.
We arrive at the cave, to find it glistening with refracted light in the sun. The walls of the mouth, as well as deeper in are sharp and aggressive, made of various quartz structures. The floor is a fine sand dust of quartz.
Before we enter properly, Kaelan chisels away enough amethyst to create a little purple familiar guy, who hung out with us to aid us.
As we pushed deeper in, we caught sight of a humanoid figure, then another, then two more. They appeared to be statues made of the same quartz as the rest of the cave, in fairly spooky and jarring poses.
Distracting us from the statues, swarms of spiders were spotted on the roof, and Kaelan failed to hit them with fire, before Rusty rushed deeper into the cave to get a better look.
As Rusty reached the midpoint of the main chamber, the statues jolted to life, and the spiders dropped down upon us. The spiders are fairly easily dealt with, though the people they swarmed took some collateral along the way, and we found that bludgeoning damage made light work of the statues too.
Recouping from the fight, the team moves along the right wall to a side chamber, with Kaelan being stopped short of the entry by Raoul, avoiding tripping a tripwire on the floor. Carefully, the party stepped over the tripwire and entered the chamber, with Kaelan using Detect Magic to find 3 items, a Mace, a Shield, and a suit of Plate armour, along with 1500gp worth of coins, art and gems.
The party took refuge in this side chamber to recoup before delving deeper, managing to sneak a short rest in while Kaelan identified the items.
Following the short rest, the party pushed into the left half of the cave, quickly encountering a Medusa and her pet Basilisk. Raoul was quick to ready his crossbow, but Kaelan wanted to attempt to speak to her.
A small success in discussion, Kaelan managed to delay the Medusa’s hand of sending her basilisk to attack us. Though shortly after, discussion breaks down and they attack after all.
Naharmatu strides comfortably into the fight, sporting immunity to poision and petrification, the duo’s main weapons. And along with Raoul, Ishum and Kaelan, put down the Basilisk.
While the others focused on the puppy, Rusty took on the Medusa, successfully stunning her to buy some time, as well as getting some solid hits off, including pushing her into the sharp walls of the cave.
After taking down the basilisk, the entire party descended on the Medusa, with some falling slightly into her slow petrification, but eventually breaking the slowness.
Finally taking out the Medusa, we paused to breathe, and then searched the final chamber, her sleeping quarters. She had some maps that with some research might expose some new POIs, as well as 300gp more stuff. In addition, on her corpse was the Staff of Fate.
After leaving the cave, we wandered the nearby mountains a little before attempting to head back to the mine near Eagle Precipice. We got slightly lost, and discovered a windmill along the trail, which we rested at, and got home safely after.
